2016 San Felice Chianti Classico "Il Grigio" Gran Selezione 0,75lt.
£42.50

It has an intense ruby colour with slight garnet hues. The nose opens with delicate aromas of violet, cherry, small berries, spices, liquorice root, noble woods and slightly toasted nuances. In the mouth it denotes immediately good body, with rich and complex aromas accompanied by a tannic texture of good thickness. The finish is fresh and persistent.

96 POINTS JAMES SUCKLING

Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Il Grigio" is the highest quality expression of the historic Tuscan appellation. The San Felice estate produces this prestigious label only with the best grapes from the most suitable plots. The wine is based on Sangiovese, the typical vine of the area, to which small percentages of other indigenous grapes of the Chianti area are added, such as Abrusco, Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo, Pugnitello and Mazzese. The long ageing in wood contributes to giving the wine a complex, harmonious and elegant profile.

"Il Grigio" is the jewel in the crown of the San Felice winery. Located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, in Castelnuovo della Berardenga, the estate consists of many fine vineyards. The grapes for the Gran Selezione come exclusively from the vineyards in Colti, Pianaccio and Chiesamonti, on medium-textured soils rich in skeleton. These are calcareous marl soils originating from the disintegration of Alberese and Galestro, resting on a substratum of parent rock.

Pairing Suggestions: Perfect with roasts and grilled red meats, it is ideal with mature cheeses.

Maturation: It matures for 24 months in 60-100 hectolitre Slavonian oak casks and in French oak barriques and tonneaux. It ends its refinement with 8 months in the bottle.
