The 2022 Riesling is golden yellow. On the nose a wine of great structure and personality, it displays citrus notes and light nuances of tropical fruits, honey flowers, and subtle sweet spices. Soft, silky, and elegant palate , all smoothed by a moderate contribution of wood that adds further complexity. This Alto Adige wine comes from vineyards located in the Cembra valley, at an altitude between 600 and 700 meters above sea level. The vines, aged 10 to 30 years, are planted on sandy-loamy soils. San Leonardo has a long tradition linked to riesling. As early as 1892, at the wedding of Marquis Tullo Guerrieri Gonzaga and Gemma de Gresti, this wine was served, dressed in the same label as today. San Leonardo’s owner Marchese Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga, a rare example (at the time) of a professionally-trained aristocrat-oenologist, spent time at Tenuta San Guido back in the 1960s and subsequently employed the same legendary consultant, Giacomo Tachis, as Sassicaia for a time.
