The Pinot Bianco - Girlan captivates with its radiant, pale yellow color with green reflections, which already sparks anticipation for the first sip at first glance. On the nose, this exquisite wine unfolds a seductive array of aromas reminiscent of ripe apples and fresh pears, complemented by elegant nuances of white flowers and subtle mineral notes. On the palate, the Pinot Bianco - Girlan is fresh and lively, with a harmonious balance between fruity sweetness and refreshing acidity. Its rich body and pleasant creaminess make it a thoroughly successful wine experience.
We only use carefully selected grapes harvested on especially fertile soil with low yields to make this wine. Most of the grapes come from our vineyards in Girlan, which are planted on moraine soils that are very rich in fossils (porphyritic rock) and that give the wine its typical aroma, fullness and finish. The remaining grapes come from the land around Monte in the Town of Appiano, where the soil is fresher than in Girlan (as the sun sets earlier here). The silty and clayey soils on a limestone bedrock give the wine freshness and flavour.
Cantina Girlan was founded in 1923 in an ancient farmstead from the 16th century. Back then 24 winegrowers laid the foundation stones of what was later to become the winery we see today. The walls, steeped in ancient tradition, and the labyrinthine corridors of the cellar harbour the secrets of state-of-the-art winemaking technology and hold the ideal conditions for ageing our wines.
Today, about 200 greatly committed and motivated winegrowers and their families farm an area covering about 230 hectares of vineyards in the best production areas of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina. Our enologist, Gerhard Kofler, keeps in close personal contact with the winegrowers and provides his professional advice during the growing season. This beneficial exchange of expertise sets the foundations for producing highest quality wines. We pursue the following main objectives: we seek, on one hand, to showcase and promote the historic local grape varieties and on the other, to create impressive characterful wines using international grape varieties yet keeping them closely connected to the land. This is all achieved while respecting nature's flow and rhythms.
Pairing Suggestions: Enjoy it with fresh seafood, such as grilled prawns or a delicate fish fillet. This wine also pairs wonderfully with fine poultry dishes, especially poultry in light sauces. Moreover, it harmonizes excellently with light pasta dishes, risotto, and salads with creamy dressings.
Maturation: Fermentation in oak barrels of 12 and 15 hl, followed by (partial) malolactic fermentation. Aging on the lees in oak barrells for 12 months, 6 months in the in stainless steel tanks and 6 months in the bottle before we release it as Riserva.
