2021 Perusini Pinot Grigio
£19.90

This distinctly delicate and ethereal aromatic variety marries harmoniously with our full-flavoured terroir characteristics, a brilliant straw yellow. Nose: Our wine is perhaps more reminiscent of the Alsace style of Pinot Gris than it is to the greener, lighter Italian style. Its perfume is distinctly tropical, with a pronounced banana and passion fruit quality. Palate: Full bodied, with a fragrant tropical fruitiness. With its pronounced acid structure it cleanses the palate, and has a long enduring finish. It has great balance and is the most viscous of our white wines, though it avoids any cloyingness thanks to its high acidity.

In accordance with our credo that a great wine is born on the vine, Perusini wine is produced only from the grapes of its own vineyard, all terraced on loam rock (known as Ponca in Friuli) in a splendid position, the vines closely planted in accordance with strict criteria. The in-depth research into native vines that has become a byword for our vineyard over three generations.

The Perusini vineyards are one of the 50 happy few listed by Luigi Veronelli in “I vignaioli storici” (The Italian Wine-growers Bible). Today the estate is run by Giampaolo’s daughter, Teresa, an art historian like her uncle, but also a keen cultivator who divides her time between her studies and running the estate together with her husband Giacomo de Pace and her three sons.

Pairing Suggestions: Accompaniment to fish hors d’oeuvres, vegetable risottos and flans, white meat, cured ham and fresh cheese.

Maturation: With the use of specially selected yeasts the vinification took place in modern stainless steel tanks with the temperature of fermentation controlled below 20° C. For the following 6 months the wine was left in contact with the fine lees. The wine has not gone through malolactic fermentation, in the effort to retain the original fruit aromas.
