2020 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri IGT 0,75lt.
Ruby red with purple reflections, Le Volte dell' Ornellaia 2020 has a vinous bouquet, releasing a complexity of aromas ranging from ripe red fruits, to Mediterranean scrub, up to delicate notes of tobacco and spices. The mouthfeel is soft and silky, but at the same time supported by a lively acidity that gives us a crisp, persistent finish.
93 POINTS JANE ANSON
92 POINTS WINE ENTHUSIAST
92 POINTS FALSTAFF
This is the baby brother of the Super Tuscan Ornellaia and is nicely scented with a rounded, plump body, glossy fruit and warming, spicy palate. It was aged for 10 months partly in oak barriques and partly in cement tanks with the aim of obtaining a good balance between tannic structure and expressive fresh fruit. It's nicely dry in the mouth, but with a real generosity of flavour and a long and satisfying finish.
Founded in 1981 the Ornellaia estate in the fashionable Bolgheri wine region of Tuscany is, alongside the likes of Sassicaia, one of the pioneers of 'Super Tuscan' wines and one its iconic producers. In contrast to Chianti wines which are based on the indigenous Sangiovese grape, 'Super Tuscans' generally revolve around Bordeaux varieties and winemaking styles. Ornellaia was founded by Lodovico Antinori who deliberately planted Bordeaux varieties. From the first vintage release in 1985 the wines were an immediate success and were key in establishing the style. Over the years the estate has changed ownership on a number of occasions and is currently part of the Frescobaldi stable. The wines themselves continue to be held in the highest esteem and command commensurate prices in the market.
