2022 Ronco del Gelso Cabernet
The 2022 Ronco del Gelso Cabernet is crafted from a blend of Cabernet Franc and Carmenere grapes, which were previously misidentified in Friuli vineyards. The oldest vines are Carmenere, while newer plantings are Cabernet Franc. The label uses the term "Cabernet" in accordance with DOC regulations. This wine is aged for one year in steel tanks on lees to soften its bold character, resulting in a wine with personality, brilliant color, and pleasant roundness without heavy tannins. Our vineyards are located on a small plain formed by Isonzo tributaries, featuring poor, stony, and dry soils that are ideal for high-quality viticulture. We practice single-Guyot pruning and vertical-trellis training with high vine density to encourage root competition. Careful selection of clones and rootstocks is made to suit our soils, and green cover is planted in alternating rows. Average yields are around 1–1.5 kg per vine, ensuring the distinctive nature of our wines.
