2018 Marchesi Antinori "Tignanello"
Tignanello is a pioneering wine, known as the first Sangiovese aged in barriques and the first modern red blend with Cabernet. It is crafted from a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, and is notable in the Chianti Classico region for not including white grapes. The 2018 growing season began with typical winter weather, leading to an early bud break. Spring experienced frequent rain and cooler temperatures, while summer was hot and dry. Harvest commenced on September 20th with Sangiovese and concluded on October 12th with Cabernet, resulting in grapes of excellent ripeness. Tignanello and Solaia are esteemed wines from the estate, recognized for their impact on Italian viticulture. The label, designed by Silvio Coppola in 1974, showcases his minimalist style and was created following discussions at Castello della Sala in 1973.
