Garnet-red in color with ruby reflections. An intense odor with clean scents of roses, vanilla, roasted hazelnuts, licorice and spices. Full, elegant, full-bodied and austere flavor with recurring hints of the olfactory sensations. Pleasant touch of tar and oaky notes in perfect equilibrium.

The grapes used to make this Barolo blend grow exclusively in our “Cru Storici” vineyards, situated in the municipality of Barolo, on hills with a good slope composed of clay and limestone soils, alternated with firm layers of gray sandstone and covered by quartz sands and very fine silt. nebbiolo is the eclectic variety par excellence: from firm clay and limestone soils, it extracts plenty of nutrient minerals and trace elements that enrich its structure; from loose soils rich in sands and silt, it takes fragrant and spicy scents.

Our wish is to obtain a harmonious blend that sums up the characteristics of the vintage, determined both by climate and by the specific mix of microclimate and soil type of each vineyard.

One day, the Marchesa was at court and King Carlo Alberto asked her jokingly:
«Marchesa, people always speak highly of the wine from your holdings. When will you let us taste it?»
«Your Majesty, your wish will be granted soon» answered the Marchesa.

And in fact, some time later, a long procession of ox carts entered Turin, and they filled the whole Via Nizza, going to the Royal Palace […] There were more than three hundred of them, one for each day of the year, and that was the «tasting» of Barolo wine that the Marchesa was sending to the King.

According to the source, Marchesa Giulia ordered that no less than 325 carrà (casks used to transport wine at the time) be brought to the king, one for each day of the year, excluding the 40 days of Lent, when King Carlo Alberto would have followed the Catholic precept of temperance and fast.

Finally stable and perfect to be transported for long distances without being altered, Barolo soon became the wine of the Savoy court, of ambassadors and high-ranking officers of the army. After a short time, it also reached royal and noble banquets all over Europe. For this reason it was famously dubbed “The King of Wines, the Wine of Kings”.

Pairing Suggestions: It goes well with traditional egg pastas from the Langhe (tajarin), meat-stuffed ravioli, red meats, boiled meats, braised meats and game. It is ideal for sipping alongside sheep and goat toma cheeses and hard ripened cheeses.

Maturation: The wine is racked into cement vats that are lined with fiberglass and isolated by cork to maintain the post-fermentation temperature of 22° C for an extended period. In this way, malolactic fermentation starts spontaneously and is completed rapidly. This wine has been aged for 23 months in small oak in the traditional medium-big Slavonian oak barrels, making it harmonious and well-balanced, and enhancing the elegance of the bouquet. Before going onto the market, the wine completes its fining in the bottle for a few months. The Barolo del Comune di Barolo reaches maturity 3 years after being harvested .
