2018 Perusini Rosso Del Postiglione Friuli Colli Orientali
£23.40

First produced in 1962 as the result of a bet made by Giampaolo Perusini who even then believed in the potential of the red wines of Friuli, this wine immediately won a gold medal at the Wine exhibition of Corno di Rosazzo. It is presented again today, the same blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon confined in barrels of french oak, with the same label figuring the coachman by Vernet chosen by Giampaolo Perusini. Medium bright ruby Nose: fruity bouquet recalling raspberries, blueberries, liquorice and spices Palate: full-bodied, soft tannic, harmonic, tasty, with a very long finish.

In accordance with our credo that a great wine is born on the vine, Perusini wine is produced only from the grapes of its own vineyard, all terraced on loam rock (known as ponca in Friuli) in a splendid position, the vines closely planted in accordance with strict criteria. The in-depth research into native vines that has become a byword for our vineyard over three generations.

The Perusini vineyards are one of the 50 happy few listed by Luigi Veronelli in “I vignaioli storici” (The Italian Wine-growers Bible). Today the estate is run by Giampaolo’s daughter, Teresa, an art historian like her uncle, but also a keen cultivator who divides her time between her studies and running the estate together with her husband Giacomo de Pace and her three sons.

Pairing Suggestions: Excellent with grilled white and red meats. You can also pair it with tasty and ripe cheese.

Maturation: Ganymede method during the maceration period, which lasted for 18 days. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation the wines were pressed immediately and put into medium toast French oak barrels, in which it underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged for around a year. After all, the different wines were blended together.
