2016 Scarbolo Mattia (Beyond Pinot) Pinot Grigio
£19.00

Gorgeous nose of candied orange, ripe nectarines, camomile and a hint of sweet, nutty oak. Citric full viscous palate with the merest suggestion of oak. Bitter grapefruit and lively citric nerve adding a lemony twist on the finish. A brilliant and expressive wine from a torrid vintage.

Scarbolo is a family owned winery in the Fruili region of northern Italy. In 1960 Gino Scarbolo planted the first vines, and the winery has seen four generations of the family since. You can see the generations of wheels turning to keep the vineyard always progressing to make better wines on the label of every bottle of Scarbolo wine. At Scarbolo we follow the “SQNPI” integrated farming protocol, which is founded on respecting the principles of environmental sustainability integrating them into the high quality of the grapes.

Being awarded the certificate is the result of our commitment to orient vineyard management toward practices that are environmentally respectful, responsible, and committed, by reducing chemicals and synthetic fertilizers, and always keeping in mind that good wine is made from good, healthy grapes.

Pairing Suggestions: Accompaniment to fish hors d’oeuvres, vegetable risottos and flans, white meat, cured ham and fresh cheese.

Maturation: Natural decantation followed by fermentation in stainless steel. After nine days 40% of the young wine is racked off in 20-hl French and Slavonian oak casks to finish fermentation. Both batches are aged on the lees for 18 months in their respective containers with regular bâtonnage. After assemblage the wine ages a further 12 months in stainless steel. Intense straw yellow.
