This Wine is very interesting, with a glinting golden color and toasty aromas, underpinned by well-defined aromas of white flowers and peaches Full-bodied and fleshy on the palate, ending on a refreshing finish whose acidity helps preserve the wine's vigour and intensity.

Château Fontenil is a leading estate in the Fronsac appellation on Bordeaux's right bank, owned by world-famous winemaker Michel Rolland and his oenologist wife Dany. It is best known for red wine made from Merlot, though a white wine is also made.
As winemaking consultants the Rollands got to know the Fronsac region well and wished to settle there. They began with a few hectares in Saillans, and named the property Fontenil after one of the vineyard plots. Renovations on the buildings and facilities were completed in 1999. The vines lie on the highest part of the Fronsac plateau, on a generally south-facing hillside (the best parcels have a fully southern exposure). They overlook the Isle river, a tributary of the Dordogne, and also the town of Libourne.
Most of the vines are well over 40 years old, with some much older. There are 11 hectares (27 acres) in all, of which at least nine are planted to Merlot. One hectare is devoted a range of white varieties; Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Sauvignon Gris, Muscadelle and a small parcel of the very un-Bordelais Chardonnay. In 2019, Fontenil became the first estate in Fronsac to produce white wine. This is also a Vin de France, sold in a Burgundy-shaped bottle, and combines all of the white varieties grown on the property. Little more than 300 cases are made.
