2019 CVNE Rioja Imperial Gran Reserva 3,0lt. Jeroboam (Wooden Box)
This opens with ripe black fruit and plum aromas, framed by well-integrated oak and subtle herbal notes. It displays a delicate style in the mouth, with fine, chalky tannins and a hint of dried herbs on the finish. The 2019 is a refined, flavourful red in a thoroughly classic Rioja tone. 2019 was a near-ideal vintage across Rioja Alta with a long, even growing season, modest yields and excellent conditions that produced small, perfectly ripe clusters.
This Gran Reserva has excellent aging potential and has received outstanding ratings: 95 points from Robert Parker Wine Advocate and Vinous respectively.
The grapes came from old bush-trained, dry-farmed vines in Villalba and Torremontalbo, harvested by hand between 24 September and 16 October.
Founded in 1879, C.V.N.E. (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) remains family-owned, with the Imperial winery in Haro dedicated solely to producing wines of exceptional potential. Since its first vintage in 1920, Imperial has only been made in outstanding years and has come to define the classic, long-lived style of Rioja Alta. In 2013, the Imperial Gran Reserva was named World’s Best Wine by Wine Spectator - a milestone moment that reinforces the reputation of this fantastic wine.
