Merlot Pit Franc is the result of a desire to have Merlot.
The selected vintages were those that gave the maximum natural potential to the vines.
It is a wine that from a company point of view has made its own path and becomes for the company and only for the company, the serving temperature is an essential condition to fully appreciate this merlot.
Tasting it, you realize that you are looking at a superb wine. An intense ruby red color, with violet reflections that still denote its young age.
A great fruity richness with the
great maturity obtained with theconsidered permanence in barrels, culminates with an unparalleled union between a dense, silky tannic structure and passionate pleasantness. The notes of red fruit, small hintsof vanilla with a characteristic light sweetness and an incredible freshness, give a completeness to the wine. It is ready to be drunk, andit is also ready to stand the test of time.
With game in general, both feathered and furred, it is certainly fascinating. The only regret is, perhaps, the last vintage.
“The Gotha of Taste”. In 2009 Michele Moschioni was awarded “The Gotha of Taste” by The Hotelier Press International Academy for the excellence of his wines. The video is an opportunity to watch again the television interview given in the barrique cellar on the occasion of the award: a document that summarises the company’s identity through the images and dialogue with journalist Stephan de Cennetich. This milestone tells of how the true passion of a winemaker for red wines in a land of white wines has made of him an international icon and an essential reference for international lovers of great vintage wines.
The wines of Moschioni
The secret? (which is clear from us, it is not a secret at all) superior viticulture with low yields and late harvests, supported by desiccation of the grapes to add further body and richness. To tell the truth, the latest practice is always of minor importance, there is no desire to produce a local version of Amarone. An excellent Bordeaux blend exists in two versions, Celtico and Real , but the focus is on native varieties that distinguish the region of Friuli , Schioppettino , Refosco and Pignolo . Elegant the first, very fruity and full the second, but the pride of the house is the powerful and intense Pignolo, concentrated, but balanced, one of those wines that saved a grape that seemed endangered.
Moschioni’s History and Philosophy
Cividale del Friuli , a charming and historic town that was once, before the growth and development of Udine, the capital of the region, is located in a position further north than most of the wine-growing areas of the Eastern Hills of the denomination of the Friuli . The high hills and mountains behind it are often covered by snow even in spring and the cold climate, even in summer, is not something occasional at all. But despite this fact, there is an important presence of red grapes in the local vineyards, and many of the varieties present, Cabernet , Refosco , Pignolo, they ripen late, something that forces serious producers to further efforts in the vineyards if they want to avoid strong tannins, aromas and vegetable flavors.
Maturation: Manual harvest. Vinification and maturation: fermentation in tonneau of about 10 hl with manual punching down and always in the total absence of yeasts for about 20 days. Soft pressing with natural decantation and then maturation in first passage barriques usually for a year; this Merlot instead two years. Spontaneous malolactic in the following spring. In magnum bottles for approximately one year before being released on the market.
